FROM SUPERFINE FINGERING WEIGHT
TO WORSTED WEIGHT.

UNDERSTANDING YARN WEIGHTS

Yarn weight refers to the thickness of the yarn.  It ranges from superfine to super-bulky. The heavier the yarn, the fewer stitches per centimetre/inch. The fewer the stitches per centimetre/inch, the looser the finished knitted project.

We recommend knitting a gauge swatch with the selected yarn before starting work on a project that involves sizing, since not all yarns of a certain weight category are exactly the same.  The difference between 26 stitches and 30 stitches per 10 centimetres/4 inches can be significant when  trying to make a sweater fit just right!

For needle size and information about number of stitches per 10 centimetres (four inches) please consult www.craftyarncouncil.com
